This brooch is dramatic with a marvelous sense of movement and vitality. Dreamy blue-green turquoise is inlaid in sterling silver in the form of a lively parrot. His mouth is open, his tongue is extended...you can almost hear him screech. His eyes are wide and his neck feathers and tail feathers are ruffled. A truly vivacious piece. The back of the brooch is signed "Taxco" and "Sterling."

This piece dates from the 1960s, a high point in silver jewelry design in Mexico. The Mexican city of Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for the designers and studio jewelers was the locally mined supply of materials, silver and semi precious gems were abundant and affordable.
